Cali

Oh man, the weather here is so nice. We rolled into town yesterday at about 4:30 in the afternoon and found the weather to be cool and very unlike Vegas (of course). I was so glad to be in Cali finally. Corinne and her aunt Lyda took off to do some shopping and I stayed home and watched the baby. I have a cold right now and am feeling pretty miserable. I’ve not been sleeping for crap lately (thanks to frequent pages I get all night from my job) and it finally caught up with me. As you might guess, I’m not that excited about. Frankly, I’m a bit peaved.

Going to Tasty Goody tonight for dinner. It’s this little chinese fast food place that piles your plate so high, even I can’t finish a two-item plate. It’s one of those things I look forward to every year. We’re going to watch Starsky and Hutch a little later. I’ve heard the movie was pretty funny; I guess we’ll find out soon. As you can see, Vacation to this point is just what I want it to be; very relaxing.

We’ve Started

OK, so I haven’t posted in a LONG time; sorry about that. Today is the first day of our 2004 vacation to Huntington Beach, CA. We left on yesterday at about 1:30pm and drove to Vegas to stay with our friends here. They were so wonderful to let us chill with them for the night. The baby was bit of a monster on the way from St. George to Vegas, but all-in-all, she did very well.

We’ll be heading out soon to head to LaVern, CA. where Corinne’s aunt lives. We’ll be staying there for a few days. Updates soon.

Climbing Adventure

Had quite an adventure today at work. We put some time in this morning getting the new 802.11a back-haul radio installed at the problem POP; that was the easy part. When we got back, we didn’t have a convenient roof to climb on, no…we have a tower. I have known for some time that I was going to have to climb the tower and the thought hasn’t really bothered me. So, at three o’clock, I strapped on the old tool belt and hauled myself up to about forty feet. Once there, I strapped myself in and began installing the parabolic antenna and the accompanying radio. All in all, I was up the tower for about an hour putting things into place. By the time I got down, I was drenched with sweat and a bit sunburned. I can say this though, I can see how someone could get addicted to doing that. I mean, it was quite a rush. Likely, I’ll be back up tomorrow and I’ll snap a few pics to put up.

Still Going

Yeah…well, work certainly didn’t get much better today. We were up with the baby all night long so I went in to work a few hours late. No sooner than had I got in, I was informed that the site that we had put so much work into last week was down again. This time though, it was going up and down. Needless to say, I was ready to fly off the hook. After some troubleshooting, we replaced yet another radio and the main LMR cable. After the replacement, we saw that everything was online so naturally, we left. No sooner than had we got down the hill, we received a call saying that the POP was down AGAIN! Well, we trudged back up the hill and started troubleshooting again. After another two hours, the only thing that we could think of is that the cable that we just replaced was bad. Of course, it was working before we left so I didn’t think that was the case. Just out of the blue, we decided to turn off the WEP encryption between both sides to see what happened and…viola! It worked. We turned the encryption back on and everything was working. Yeah…it sucks.

Corinne took a new job today. She was hired on the spot as concierge at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Ogden. Her Mother told her to check into the Marriott and so she looked at Workforce Services. She found a position there, but as a bellhop. We decided that she should just go in and see what else they had. She literally walked in, handed the guy her resume, and he told her that he wanted her to fill out an application as a "formality". He was so impressed with her demeanor that he even paid her more than what concierges usually get paid. I talked to a friend at work and he said that a few years ago, he had that exact same job; same shift even. He said the biggest problem is that sometimes it gets so slow, that you don’t know what to do. Frankly, I think that’s great. If that’s the biggest problem, then sign us on. The job with be Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 to 10:30. It’s going to be a LOT of hours, but I think it will be worth it in the short-term to help us get back on track.

Also this week, when I got paid, we knew that we were just going to have enough to pay our car payment, insurance, and that was it. We either paid tithing our bought groceries. We decided to pay our tithing and hope for the best. Well, Saturday at Milaena’s birthday party, my Grandmother handed us a card from my aunt and uncle. She told us it was for the wedding present that Ron and Ginna never gave us. Keep in mind, we were married THREE years ago. We opened the card, not knowing what to expect, and found a $75.00 gift-card to Target! Talk about blessings. We paid our tithing and look what happens: instant blessings. I know that it doesn’t always happen like that, but honestly now you have to admit to the coolness of that. Needless to say, I think the Lord is blessing us for doing the right things.

Birthday Celebration

Birthday CakeWe celebrated Milaena’s first birthday today. We kept it simple and just had John and Janelle as well as all four of my grand parents at the party. We opened her gifts (everyone was so gracious) and then let her dig into the cake. Of course, that was such a wonderfully fun thing. She was so delicate with the cake at first, She would just stick her fingers in it and then lick them off. However, that apparently got old really quick because she just suddenly grabbed the piece of cake and tried to shove the whole thing in her mouth. It was hilarious. She seemed to have a lot of fun and we certainly enjoyed being with my family. I also ended the day with a much-needed haircut. It’s funny how something as simple as a haircut can make a guy feel like a new man.
