Belated Shower

We had a great time today at my cousin’s belated shower. A year ago, when she was married, there were a lot of things going on and for some reason, she didn’t get a wedding shower. So, we had one for her today.

We barbecued and played a hilarious game. Basically, you take a bag of plain M&M’s, some straws and a pair of dice. Each person rolls the dice and if you get a seven, eleven, or doubles, you get the bowl of M&M’s and try to suck out as many as possible using the straw. You can’t use your hands and you have to put the candy into your own bowl. At first, we were all quite friendly, but after a few minutes the competition got fierce. At the end of the bowl, you count up your colors and tally up the score. Each color is worth a different amount. Corinne won tonight. She got a trophy (homemade) and the opportunity to give an “acceptance” speech to the family. It was HILARIOUS. We had a great time. I’m certainly glad to be close to my family again.

Jacked

I spent the better part of today wielding a jack hammer. Our landlord has decided to break up the bottom of their forty year-old pool and I was asked if I’d help. Having never used a jack hammer before, I was excited to see what it was like. By 5:00 p.m. yesterday, I was spent. We started at 11:30 a.m. and took a few small breaks. My upper back hurts, my palms, my fingers (I can barely fit my ring on), my forearms, biceps, and my right quads. The jacking was easy, the tough part is getting the bit out once it had punctured the bottom of the slab. I had to work my butt off. Frankly, I’m a bit “out of condition” since I work a desk job, but think all-in-all, I handled it well. I was a bit sore today, and I’m sure I’ll be worse tomorrow, but hey…how many people get to use a jack hammer?

Take Down

I’m thinking about taking this page down. I love the fact that it’s there, but I just don’t like that I haven’t the time to update it and keep everyone posted with what’s happening. Speaking of which, who is everyone? Does anyone even read this thing? Let me know by dropping a line to if you think I should keep this up.

I’ve taken the job in Salt Lake City that I’ve been looking at. I didn’t want to put too much (read: anything) here because I didn’t know “who” was reading it. I didn’t want to clue anyone in or get anyone upset (read: my boss) before things were solidified. But here are some details: I’ll be running a foster-care agency in SLC, the company is based out of St. George, I’ll be making much better money a few months down the road, I’ll be recruiting foster parents (holler at me if you know anyone interested), and I’m VERY excited about it all. We’ll be moving mid-May. I can’t wait, and you can’t blame me.
