Switched To Geico

So, we’ve been shopping for a new insurance policy for our cars lately. Now, I like to think that I’m not swayed by commercials, but I must admit that I love the Geico caveman series. So, I thought I’d hop on their site and see what they had to offer. Our current policy is carried with Farmers and our agent is still based out of St. George. That being the case, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal that the nearest office was in Layton. So, I got a quote.

Turns out, Geico can save us nearly $300 every six months. Of course, what that really means is that our agent never bothered to call us and see if our premiums would have changed since, the last time it was checked, was before we were married! What’s he getting paid for anyway? The fact we are getting more coverage for that amount is even cooler. So, today I ordered the policy. The experience was simple. I filled out some basic info and one half an hour later, my proof-of-policy information was faxed to me. Since I don’t have a fax machine, I let the PowerBook receive them. Bingo, I’m done. Was that it? Yassum, it was. So, if you think you’re paying too much for insurance, perhaps you should check out Geico as well.

Sick Of Apartment Life

Corinne and I have been talking a bit lately and we’ve come to an agreement on something: we’re sick of apartment life. It seems like every month we’re having to send more and more stuff to “storage” (read: my parent’s house) and we’re just tired of not having any space. We’ve looked at a few other options, but until I get out of school, nothing is really going to happen.

IF I stay working at Vista, then we may look into moving to Magna. It would be nice to be so close to work, but then again, it’s Magna. Thing is, we can find rental homes out there for quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else. We’d like to rent a home since, as I said, we’re sick of apartment life. It’s not just the lack of space that makes it hard. It’s things like having to haul groceries 25 yards and up three flights of stairs or having a really crappy washer and dryer set. Okay, I know I’m complaining, but really now. It IS tough.

So, until we figure out what’s going to happen with school, I we won’t be able to make a decision, but perhaps come June, things will change.

Morning Wood

So, I’ve been meaning to note this for a while, but just haven’t. Mercury automobiles has been cracking me up lately. In several advertisements for their Milan model, they have been using a somewhat-hip song. In the clip of the song used for the advertisement, the only words are “to the Nth degree!” Reality is, the song is by a band named Morning Wood and just before the previously-mentioned line, the lead vocalist spells “M O, M O R, M O R N I N G W O O D!” I don’t know why I get such a kick out of it, but every time I hear the commercial playing I can’t help but think Mercury’s marketing department is playing a cruel joke on the folks who sign their checks. If so, it’s a good one.

WordPress 2.1 and K2 0.9.5 RC1

I upgraded the site to WordPress 2.1 today. WordPress 2.1 has a number of really neat additions. I would suggest upgrading soon.

I also upgraded to K2 0.9.5 RC1. Of course, I had to apply my usual tweaks (header and footer changes, image borders, a few other things), but I’m happy with it. I wonder where the scrolling history went? (Oh, you have to actually navigate through the history to see it, so…hit “older.”)

I also changed the background color just slightly. I don’t know why I kept it white for so long.
