Help Paris Hilton Out…Send Her To Jail

Okay, so I know the petition really won’t do any good, but hey, just for effect…

Jail Paris Hilton Petition

Dead Pixel

I found ONE dead pixel on my 20″ cinema display today. I can’t tell you how upset that makes me. Okay, that was a lame post.

Clean Up The Mac OS X Contextual “Open With” Menu

Yesterday I noticed that my “Open With” menu had become quite clogged. I had over 20 applications that were available to open .jpg files. It was really irritating because I often will open a .jpg in programs other than their default (especially when OS X has assigned Photoshop to open a file) and I abhorred scrolling down a long list of programs to reach, say, Preview.

Enter the following tip:

/System/Library/FrameWorks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/
Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill
-r -f -domain local -domain system -domain user

Essentially, this forces OS X to “review” each program that is capable of handling the different types of files found on a system. Often, I had things in there from programs that didn’t exist or several different versions of the same program. After this, my “Open With” menu has cleaned up quite a bit and looks much nicer.
