So, Milaena will be a vampire for Halloween this year, and Mason will be a Pirate. The other day, when asking Mase what he was going to be, I got the response, “vampirate.” I swear, that kid cracks me up. What a fantastic little man.

12 miles yesterday, 15 today. To Murray yesterday, to Draper today. Felt great yesterday, a little off today. Last week I bought some Flat Attack tubes for my commuter because I was tired of getting flats. I bought some “flat proof” tires 500 miles ago, that have turned out to be not so flat “proof,” but more flat resistant. I’ve still gone through about $30 in tubes in the last 500 miles. MUCH more than I should have been spending. The new tubes have yet to prove their worth, but they certainly have proven their weight.
The additional rotational weight (about 100 to 110 grams per wheel) has affected me slightly as my average speed on one of my usual rides has dropped by a full mile-per-hour and I’m working a little harder than usual. A quarter-pound doesn’t sound like much, but think about how much heavier the water in a bucket feels when you swing it around in circles; same effect. Today I worked my way up 8600 South to 1300 East and the hill there was certainly more work than usual. That’s okay though, it usually only takes a week or so for me to get used to changes on my bikes. Once my legs catch up though, it’s smooth sailing.
So, being that I have ridden four times in the last four days, I thought I’d go ahead and challenge myself to ride every day for thirty days. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I’m going to go out and just rack myself to death on the bike every day, but at the very least, I should take the bike out for errands or just a quick half-hour spin. This being the case, I will have a ride every day until November 22. If I’m feeling particularly motivated, maybe I’ll even go through Thanksgiving this year (that’s usually a big-ride weekend anyway). Of course, the weather holds the power to make my challenge a bit more interesting. I’ll issue intermittent reports as I continue along in my challenge.
I’m SO glad I have iChat to talk with the kids. They’re in St. George for a while and though I get to talk to them on the phone every day, it’s so much nicer to actually see them. Whenever we speak, the kids always ask if we can talk on the computer. I’m SOOO glad to have this technology available. Undoubtedly, this is clear evidence to me that technology does in fact make life easier.
Despite the state of mild turmoil I’ve found myself in over the last week, I have found some respite; riding my bike as usual. Since Ryan has been working swing, it opens up an opportunity for us to take morning rides on days we usually wouldn’t go. So, Friday, we decided to go ride up Clark’s Trail in Corner Canyon, all the way up to Jacob’s Ladder. As usual, the 10 mile climb in is a bit of grunt work, but being that we really wanted to push a little harder, we kept on going (it was the plan from the beginning). Actually, just last week we rode this same ride (it is quickly becoming one of our favorites because of the ride quality and the proximity).
