So, Apple says the 2G iPhone (original) can’t do MMS. Well, I’m glad there are hackers out there who are willing to figure this crap out rather than having everyone shell out for new phones. After some digging and tinkering, MMS is working just fine on my 2G iPhone. Here are the exact steps I used to win the battle. First, you must have an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed. If you don’t know what that is, read up on RedSn0w or Pwnage at http://blog.iphone-dev.org. I use T-Mobile in the Salt Lake City market. These settings work for sending full-resolution iPhone pics to others. They look great on other iPhones, but not so good on crappy camera phones.
- Start Cydia and add this source: http://cydia.alpden.com
- Inside Cydia search for “ActivateMMS2G”
- Download & install “ActivateMMS2G”
- Restart iPhone
- Navigate to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
- Enter APN, MMSC, and MMS Proxy (Note: my provider does not require user & password)
- APN: wap.voicestream.com
- MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
- MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.050:8080
- MMS Max Message Size: 307200
- MMS UA Prof URL: wap.sonyericsson.com/UAprof/W800iR101.xml (this “spoofs” the server into sending a full-resolution picture, rather than a scaled down version)
- Restart iPhone
- Open Messaging app and look at the camera icon
So, I know this may be old news for some. Actually, I”m putting it out there because I just want it for personal reference, but whatever. Hope it helps someone.
