So, yeah, I’ve been sick, but that hasn’t really kept me from getting out on the bike. Of course, getting out on the bike has kept me from not getting better but, oh well (I’m going snowshoeing tomorrow).
Yesterday, Ryan and I met at Wheeler Farm for the usual ride. After putting in a few laps and goofing off an incessant amount, we decided a river crossing was in order. Please ignore the long start, I didn’t want to take the time to edit the flick. I get through the deep side and get hung up on a rock as I’m coming out. Lame. Oh, and cover up sensitive ears, I make good use of the D-word here.
Got out and put in 12 miles today. The right side of my chest is still tender from my last wreck and I couldn’t quite get a full chest of air. Clearly, this made putting the hammer down pretty interesting. Regardless, I’m ready to get back to it. The shoulder held up well today, though the chest may take a bit longer to heal. Gotta start training though, Ryan and I are planning on racing cyclocross next season and we’ll need all the conditioning we can get.
Back on our Hell Ride 2008, Ryan took this video of me cleaning a pretty technical section of the trail. I figured I’d finally get around to posting it.
So, today got off to a good start. Ryan and I met at the Temple Quarry trail for a morning ride. Being that his dérailleur is broken and mine is acting funny, we decided to single speed it and mash our way through the snow. The climb was very arduous. Usually, it takes about 35 minutes to ascend the trail, but after the same amount of time today, we were but a quarter the way up. Soon after a breather, we realized the beaten snow ended and we were facing six to eight inches of fluff, topped only by the two thin trails that only cross-country skis leave behind. “Let’s turn it and burn it” I said to Ryan.
Headed up 700 East again tonight. Went a little further on the far end and then a little further on the return.
Temperature: 34°F
Distance: 11.5 Miles
Time: 46 minutes
Road Conditions: Dry
Number of honks: 0
Number of cautious drivers: nearly every one, but the guy who pulled a left-hand turn.
Always vigilant, I had to perform an evasive maneuver to avoid t-boning the bone-headed driver. As if my heart rate wasn’t up enough, that encounter sent it through the roof.
I’ve been concentrating on my breathing in the cold air. Nasal breathing has never been a strong point of mine, but I’m determined to get better at it. Having my mouth covered by my balaclava makes it a bit easier.
