As you might imagine, my shoulder is still quite stiff. Swollen too. As a matter if fact, it’s so swollen, I cannot feel the bones underneath the swelling. It’s amazingly tender too. I’m thinking I did more tissue damage that skeletal damage, but regardless, I’m glad I don’t work with my hands or something; I’d be screwed.
I have been taking it easy though. I read Catcher In The Rye in two days and started A Different Mirror yesterday and am already 100 pages in. I love reading what I want to. My current book is “a multi-cultural history of America;” basically history as told by people other than white settlers. It’s extremely intriguing and ridiculously well researched. I’ve been meaning to read it for two years now and finally have a chance. I cannot tell you how great it is to have the weight of school off my back. With work going well and my kids coming up to see me this weekend, it’s shaping up to be a good week already. Now if I could just get this shoulder to heal and get back on my bike, I’d be set.
So, being that I have ridden four times in the last four days, I thought I’d go ahead and challenge myself to ride every day for thirty days. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I’m going to go out and just rack myself to death on the bike every day, but at the very least, I should take the bike out for errands or just a quick half-hour spin. This being the case, I will have a ride every day until November 22. If I’m feeling particularly motivated, maybe I’ll even go through Thanksgiving this year (that’s usually a big-ride weekend anyway). Of course, the weather holds the power to make my challenge a bit more interesting. I’ll issue intermittent reports as I continue along in my challenge.
I don’t get sick often. Actually, it’s a rarity for me. However, since I have had the kids for the last two weekends in a row, I’ve been feeling a little “off.” Milaena has been bringing all sorts of fun things home from school and I’ve been feeling it. I woke up Friday last week with a severe headache (not all that unusual), but today I woke up stuffy with a sore throat. I HATE being sick.
I downed an Airborne last night because I felt it coming, but it didn’t do much. Saturday, when Ryan and I climbed Clarks Trail and above, I was pushing an easy gear and was completely wasted when I reached the top of a climb I usually dominate. Given these things, I’m just going go just take it easy for a few days to see what happens (though I am planning on riding a few miles tomorrow to a job interview; wish me luck).
I won’t preface this, but…you’ll be disturbed.
Wal-Mart Pharmacy Error…
Well, I’m certainly feeling better today. Not great, but definitely better. My laptop decided to come home to me again. Leopard is amazing! I just plugged in my newly-refreshed laptop into my external drive, told Leopard setup to use my backup for recovery, and within an hour I was right back where I left off. I’m missing a few minor e-mail messages, but that’s it. I’m impressed! It’s nice to have my compact machine and two-finger scrolling back. It’s almost lame how handicapped I am without my computer.
Physically, I feel better. I did make it to school this morning, but my shoulder can’t handle the weight of my bag (so I just converted it into a one-strapper) and my head still isn’t straight, but it’s better. Looks like I’m only going to have to spend $150 or so on books this semester too, which is nice.
I didn’t mention the other day that Corinne is out of commission as well. Actually, the whole family has been sick. Looking back, aside from the holiday itself, my break wasn’t much of a break. Strangely, I’m happy to be back at school.
