As of about 2000 last night, I had NO idea what we were going to do. I had thought about taking the kids downtown on the train, but wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to hoof it alone. Before I had time to decide for myself, Greg called. He had come up with his girls and offered to come pick us up for a trip to First Night. We loaded into the car, and headed down to Salt Lake Coffee Break for hot chocolates and chai lattes. The kids had a great time running around with Greg’s daughters.
Afterwards, we headed over to first night. I had to go get cash and found that Chase Bank charges $3.00 to withdraw cash (ripoff!). We headed into the crowded space and begin looking around for things to do. There wasn’t a whole lot for kids to do (that happened earlier in the day). Finally though, we settled in around the ice rink (which was being policed by one poor security guard) and the kids hopped the guard to slide around on the cold slab.
Greg and I shot the bull and listened to Afro Omega with Wisdom rock some solid reggae. Before we knew it, we were hearing “3, 2, 1…Happy New Year!!!” and there we were. Fireworks ablaze, the children stood in awe of a solid display of pyrotechnic design. Soon after, we packed up and headed back to the car and took the slow road home.
The kids, of course, crashed on the way home. Well, Mason was out, Milaena faded to and fro. I had thought earlier to put their pajamas on under their clothes (both to add a layer of warmth and lessen my workload upon arriving home) so getting them in bed was easy. At about 0130, we all crashed out.
I’m taking the kids back to Corinne this morning. Having been with them for over a week, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t already a bit bummed out.
Check out the web album from last night.
