Well, my 30 in 30 is officially over. I’m sick. AGAIN! I’m beginning to get a sneaking suspicion that my constant hand-sanitizing at work simply isn’t enough to keep me from getting all the crap people bring in the office. In short, I can hardly breathe and I cough up a lung after any physical exertion. My mom suggested I try Mucinex and the funny thing is, I hadn’t even though of it; I’ve completely avoided the product because the commercials I’ve seen annoy me to no end. Anyway, I took it, it’s not working. My lungs are a clogged as ever and I’m quite flustered over it. Worst, I can’t even take a day off work to really try and recoup. Grrr.

Yesterday, I decided to get down to Lambert Park and ride. Of course, contrary to what people will tell you, there are more than just a handful of days on which this park is unridable; yesterday, though beautiful, was one of them. The sloshy muddy conditions sent me packing around the park, but it was all for naught. I ended up driving over Sun Crest and climbing the Corner Canyon road to the Clark’s Trail head. It took me only about a half an hour, but I was slathered in mud from the return. Good times were had indeed, though they were short lived. The new gearing on the single speed (32/23) is quite stiff, but we’ll see how that rolls.
Today, I met Ryan at his place and we put on just shy of 22 miles. I got to test his new ‘cross bike (a Scott Comp) and must say it’s pretty nice. The carbon fork sure does a lot for the ride, but I’m unsure if I trust carbon fiber bike parts yet. We cruised down Main, cut over to State at 400 South, and then up State to the Capitol. We then dropped back through “gravity hill” through City Creek and back down main. Good times. I slammed up Capitol Hill on the single speed and though I made it, I can definitely see my condition has slacked just a bit since we last climbed that hill (on a day we did 40+ miles no less).
Still figuring out what to do with the bike, but I think I might have it figured out. I’ll post more updates here as I get more close to a decision.
Put on just shy of 16 miles today. Rode from home to work in downtown, did an individual session, picked up a paycheck, went to the bank, and hopped Trax for the way home. Weather was nice, wore my poly base layer, new jersey, jeans, and my cleats. Pretty relaxed actually. Got a lot of funny looks and a cigarette butt flicked at me, but…oh well.
Oh, and I had some elderly woman tell me to “slow down” as I was going through a school zone. Of course, I was doing exactly 20 miles per hour, so…yeah. It’s funny how people’s perception of speed is different when they’re not in their cars.
So, though my shoulder is not healed 100% (and I’m not sure it ever will be), the time has come for me get get back on the wire donkey in a serious way. I’m completely unhappy with my physical condition and as such, I have recommitted myself to riding every day for 30 days. This ought to get me back into great shape for my single speed summer.
So, I’ll be posting updates on my progress every day or so. Today I headed out for the first day, but I’ll talk about that in another post.
